Too many tangles in your hair?

2. February 2023 — 2 minutes read

Curly, wavy or kinky hair is beautiful! But it needs a lot of care and above all it loves to tangle and detangling it is a pain. Due to its spiral structure, wavy and curly hair is often dry and its scales are open. This is how the hair clings to each other.

A few tips for gentle detangling

1 Conditioner

Keep hair well moisturised and conditioned to ensure that the scales remain as closed as possible and that the hair is easy to separate. To do this, use the right products for your porosity.

2 Moisturising

Always dampen the hair, detangling on dry hair will break it and pull out the knots more than detangle. On wash days, when you wash your hair, apply a detangler after the shampooing before removing knots. For co-washers, detangle hair before rinsing out the hair mask. Between washes, wet hair lightly (with a water spray for example) and apply a little conditioner.

3 The brush

It is not always necessary to use a comb or brush to detangle hair. The gentlest method, especially for knotty hair, is to use your fingers, starting at the ends and working your way up to the roots.  To detangle hair perfectly, use a wide-tooth comb or a brush. There’s no need to pull your hair out with combs or brushes designed for straight hair! Our favourite brushes are definitely the tangle teezer and the detangling brush, which you should definitely try.

4 Protection

Avoid friction that causes knots. Use a satin pillow, and for very curly or kinky hair, braid your hair before bed and protect it with a satin cap. To dry hair, avoid rubbing it with a towel, gently wring it out and then wrap it in a cotton t-shirt and leave it on.

With the right hair routine for your hair type, say goodbye to the chore of detangling, and hello to curls full of life!
